Devotional~~Build'Em Up!!

When was the last time you had someone say something about you that was good? Better yet...when was the last time someone that was a believer say something good about you? We as children of God need to be lifting one another up. Using our mouths to speak the good into lives of our heavenly siblings.
Why is saying a negative natural and something good a challenge? I have several opinions on this. One, well the obvious, it makes us vulnerable. It breaks down walls. It softens hearts! This is when God can move, when we have teachable hearts.
I am looked at as a strong, no nonsense, waiting in line for meekness type of gal. It's strange how we perceive ourselves, because I see myself as fragile, broken, awkward, misunderstood, should I go on? How do we get these images of ourselves? Are we just born that way? I don't believe that we are. I do, however, believe that Satan is at work convincing us from the moment we take our first breath. Disgusting isn't it. What happens then to convince us? When we are little the world is at our finger tips, it's in our hands, we can do anything we want in life. Until when you are in first grade, a classmate says they won't be your friend because you "look funny". Then in 4th grade, they call you stupid because you don't know your multiplication facts...then in 6th grade they leave you milk bone dog biscuits on your desk signifying you are "ugly like a dog". Horrible isn't it. What would you do if you heard someone say these things to a child...I know I would correct them and immediately build that child up in their strengths. We need to do this in the body of Christ.
Why are we so critical? Why are we pointing fingers and judging people. A lot of people will say "I have no room to judge" but do they anyway? Do you ever find yourself saying, " Well, I would NEVER do THAT!" Yes? Then...you have judged...you don't know what you would do in the same situation under the same stress with the same thoughts in your mind. What if we, as Christians, looked at that women that is sitting alone looking frightened and out of place in church, the teenager with the outrages hair, that slouching sloppy man...what if we walked up and said, "How are you today, let's grab some coffee and I'll show you around." or "I love your hair! How fun, you must be incredibly creative!" or "How are you, is there something I can do to bless you today?"
It is a true blessing to see the curve of a smile come to the edge of a mouth that has been turned upside down....that life, could be on a life raft that just got a flotation device tossed into their reach....Pull'em in, pull them in!
